The Eighth Training Session of the China – AALCO Exchange and Research Program on International Law – 6 July 2025
The China-AALCO (Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization) Exchange and Research Program on International Law (CAERP) was an international cooperation program proposed by Premier Li Keqiang at the opening ceremony of the AALCO annual session in Beijing, and was managed by the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The CAERP aims to promote the international law capacity building of Asian and African countries through carrying out relevant training, discussion and research on international law.
The Second phase of the course runs from July 4–9, 2025 in Hong Kong. The delegation had previously attended the first phase of the programme in Beijing before continuing their training in Hong Kong, where they explored topics in international law, dispute resolution, and legal technology.
Mr. Nick Chan, BBS, MH, JP, Director of AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre (AALCO-HKRAC), shared the following key insights during the sessions:
– AALCO’s contributions to international treaties, cyber law, and sustainable development
– The Centre’s commitment to providing neutral, efficient, and accessible services for international dispute resolution
– Development of Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platforms and secure digital infrastructure to enhance procedural transparency and efficiency
– The transformative impact of LegalTech on modern legal practice and the legal sector’s digital evolution
– Reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as Asia’s premier arbitration hub
The Centre has established a diverse panel of over 300 arbitrators and mediators from Asia and Africa, enhancing its capabilities to manage international disputes professionally and effectively.
Looking ahead, AALCO-HKRAC will continue to promote the development and exchange of international law, embrace technology, and cultivate internationally minded legal talent.
