On 22 October 2024, AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Center held a Networking Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. Distinguished attendees, including WESGRO, the South African government officials, Rental Tribunal of Cape Town, Representatives from Chambers of Commerce, legal professionals, and the AALCO Hong Kong delegation gathered for insightful discussions. During the opening ceremony, Mr. Mojalefa Mogono, Consul General of South Africa in Hong Kong SAR, highlighted the potential collaboration opportunities between Hong Kong and South Africa. Conversations revolved around the rise of ODR and other LawTech for International Disputes Resolution and going global with the digital economy, digital marketing and Web3.

Mr Nick Chan, Director of AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre, Mr Herman Tse, Head of Business and Professional Services at InvestHK and Mr C. M. Chan, Immediate Past President of Law Society of Hong Kong had a meeting with Her Excellency Stella Tembisa Ndabeni-Abrahams, South Africa Minister of Small Business Development, previously as Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, to promote and explore opportunities for bilateral trade, investments and professional services with South Africa and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as gateways to the two regions.

The AALCO Hong Kong delegation was warmly received by the Chinese Consulate-General in Cape Town. Mr Tang Changan, Acting General Consul of the Chinese Consulate provided the delegation a detailed analysis of South Africa’s history, business environment, and highlighted both the advantages and challenges faced by Chinese enterprises operating in the region. Mr Nick Chan, Director of AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre, also presented to the consulate the unique advantages of Hong Kong and AALCO in assisting and providing legal support and dispute resolution under the ‘One country, Two systems’ framework.
