Mr. Nicholas Ho Lik-chi, Commissioner for Belt and Road at the Belt and Road Office (BRO) of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, paid a courtesy visit to AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre (AALCO-HKRAC) and met with Director Hon. Nick Chan and Deputy Director Mr. Dennis Cai.

During the visit, the parties exchanged views on strengthening practical cooperation in capacity-building initiatives and advancing Hong Kong’s role as a connector and solutions provider for Belt and Road economies. Discussions covered AALCO–HKRAC’s forward programme for the coming year, areas where additional support could enhance training and outreach, and potential joint projects with partner institutions.

Mr. Ho also shared the latest developments on Hong Kong’s Belt and Road Capacity Building Platforms, a coordinated network bringing together leading public organisations and professional institutes to deepen “soft connectivity” through rules and standards, strengthen “heart connectivity” through closer people-to-people ties, and showcase Hong Kong’s professional strengths.

Both sides noted the value of closer coordination through the Platforms’ mechanism, under which BRO serves as an overall coordinator while participating organisations leverage their established expertise and resources to deliver high-impact programmes. The approach is expected to broaden opportunities for engagement with Belt and Road jurisdictions and amplify collective outcomes.

AALCO–HKRAC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional capacity building in dispute resolution and related professional services. The parties agreed to maintain close communication and take forward discussions on concrete areas of collaboration.
