The 2nd AALCO Sports Mediation Training Programme, co-organised by the AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre (AALCO-HKRAC) and the Olympic Academy of Hong Kong, China, concluded on 14 September 2025. The programme was fully supported by the Department of Justice, Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Hong Kong Sports Institute, the International Chamber of Commerce – Hong Kong, and the Law Society of Hong Kong, reflecting strong cross-sector interest in advancing sports mediation.

The programme welcomed over 50 participants from a wide range of sectors, including legal professionals, educators, sports practitioners, disciplined services, and operations managers. Notable attendees included Olympic gold medalist Vivian Kong Man Wai SBS, MH, and Wushu athlete Juanita Mok Uen Ying. The diverse backgrounds of participants underscored the growing relevance of sports mediation across industries.

Highlights of the programme included:

– Ms. Beverley Agbakoba-Onyejianya (Chair, Sports Committee, Nigerian Bar Association): Practical insights into international sports mediation 

– Prof. Patrick Lau (Hong Kong Baptist University): Case studies on international sports disputes 

– Prof. Christopher To (Mediator, AALCO-HKRAC and CAS): Demonstration of mediation procedures and techniques and practical session on mediation under AALCO-HKRAC rules

– Mr. Nick Chan BBS, MH, JP (Director, AALCO-HKRAC): Overview of ADR mechanisms and career pathways 

The programme was also supported by distinguished guests:

Participants expressed a high level of satisfaction with the programme’s structure, content, and practical relevance. Many shared that the training deepened their understanding of sports mediation and enhanced their confidence in contributing to the field.
