On 21 July 2025, AALCO-HKRAC had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation of 18 Korean participants, including legal interns and young lawyers, as part of the Korean Internship Programme 2025. This programme was jointly organised by the Hong Kong Law Society and the Korean Ministry of Justice to promote cross-border legal exchange and enhance understanding of international arbitration and Hong Kong’s arbitration industry.
The delegation was led by Mr. KIM Eui Seok, Deputy Director of the International Legal Advisory Division, and Mr. LEE Donggun, Public Service Advocate of the same division.
Mr. Dennis Cai, Deputy Director of AALCO-HKRAC, delivered a comprehensive presentation introducing the Centre’s establishment, key functions, organisational structure, and unique advantages. He highlighted how AALCO-HKRAC leverages Hong Kong’s strong Rule of Law, robust data privacy laws, and the International Organizations (Privileges and Immunities) (AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre) Order gazetted by the Hong Kong Government on 17 June 2022 to provide completely neutral and international arbitration opportunities.
Mr. Cai also emphasised the excellent arbitration environment in Hong Kong and the promising career prospects for international arbitrators. Supported by the “one country, two systems” framework and the Arbitration Ordinance (Cap. 609), Hong Kong has established a unified arbitration system and has been recognised for many years as one of the world’s most preferred arbitration seats. On this basis, AALCO-HKRAC serves as a key gateway to the Greater Bay Area development and the Belt and Road Initiative.
During the final Q&A session, Mr. Cai responded thoroughly to the Korean interns’ questions on the future development of arbitration in Hong Kong and career opportunities for international arbitrators. The session deepened the group’s understanding of the strong foundation and bright prospects of Hong Kong’s arbitration sector.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Hong Kong Law Society for their outstanding efforts in facilitating this meaningful exchange. Their support made this valuable cross-jurisdictional experience possible.
