On November 23, 2025, the ECUPL Intellectual Property Moot 2025 was successfully held. Jointly organized by East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL) and the AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre (AALCO-HKRAC), and co-hosted by ECUPL’s Graduate School and School of Intellectual Property, the competition brought together outstanding law students from across the globe.

This year’s competition attracted teams from 14 leading law schools, including the University of Pennsylvania, Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, Macau University of Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The moot case focused on the advanced topic of reverse confusion in trademark law. All proceedings were conducted entirely in English, with a panel of distinguished scholars and practitioners in the field of intellectual property, both from China and abroad, serving as judges.

During the opening ceremony, Professor Hong Dongying, Dean of Graduate School, ECUPL encouraged all participants to pursue excellence with craftsmanship, embrace openness through cross-cultural exchange, and be guided by a deep-rooted faith in the rule of law.

Prof. CONG Lixian, Dean of the ECUPL Intellectual Property School highlighted that ECUPL will continue to deepen the internationalization of its intellectual property programs, innovate training systems for high-quality legal professionals with global vision, and better serve national strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the overseas expansion of Chinese enterprises.

Focusing on Global IP Disputes, Forging International Competence

As Belt and Road cooperation advances and more Chinese enterprises expand abroad, intellectual property disputes are becoming increasingly cross-border and complex. Through its fully English moot court format, the ECUPL Intellectual Property Moot 2025 provided a valuable platform for students to explore intricate substantive legal issues and sharpen their legal reasoning, professional English skills, and courtroom advocacy in a highly realistic litigation environment.

Building a High-Level International Exchange Platform for Future Legal Leaders

As a co-organizer, AALCO-HKRAC remains committed to promoting international legal exchange and the development of legal talent across Asia, Africa, and beyond. In his opening remarks, Mr. Dennis Cai, Deputy Director of AALCO-HKRAC, noted that the competition offered a strong platform for future legal professionals to broaden their horizons and refine their skills. He expressed hope that this event would serve as a bridge for deeper cooperation between AALCO-HKRAC and ECUPL in joint talent development and the promotion of rule of law.

After several intense rounds of competition, the championship was awarded to Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary. ECUPL earned second place, while Tsinghua University and Nanjing University of Science and Technology tied for third place.

AALCO-HKRAC extends its warm congratulations to all winning teams and sincere respect to every participant who demonstrated dedication and excellence throughout the competition.
