Supporting by AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre, the Law Society of Hong Kong proudly hosted the Second Instalment of the 7th Belt and Road Conference on 28 April 2025. Building on the momentum of its inaugural session in November 2024, which convened over 500 professionals from 32 jurisdictions, this year’s conference drew remarkable global engagement, attracting over 1,300 participants worldwide, including legal experts, policymakers, and industry leaders, more than doubling the attendance of the 2024 edition of the event.

Moderated by Mr. Nick Chan, BBS, MH, JP (Chair of the Belt and Road Conference Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong and Director of AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre), the conference opened with a panel discussion on “Building a Peaceful and Fair Multipolar World to Advance Economies.”

The session featured an engaging and fruitful dialogue with distinguished panelists:

  • Dennis Cai, Deputy Director of the AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre;
  • Mr Andrey Gorlenko, the Former Director of the Russian Arbitration Centre (RAC) at the Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration;
  • Datuk Prof. Sundra RAJOO, the Director of Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution; and
  • Thomas SO, the Past President, and Chairman of Belt and Road Committee of The Law Society of Hong Kong.

Panelists analyzed the profound geopolitical, economic, and environmental shifts since November 2024 and reaffirmed the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence as a timeless framework for fostering equitable multilateralism and sustainable development.

The panel underscored the pivotal role of international organisations like AALCO and its regional arbitration centers in today’s rapidly evolving global landscape. By harnessing their inherent strengths and leveraging unique regional networks, these institutions are advancing a robust framework to promote peaceful dispute resolution worldwide.

The Conference also spotlighted critical topics such as “The Promotion of green economy and use of clean and future energy” and “Advancing scientific and legal technological innovation”.
